Familiar strangers

That familiar face
That familiar stance
My feelings were the same
His expression was different.
When I’d known the iside of him and he did mine he’d been bare
His eyes were covered now
His emotions were not tangible anymore.
I stood waiting
He stood wanting to leave
All the familiar gestures and words were strange between us.
Our friends looked our way, made those swooning faces
I felt like fragments glued together to make a broken doll
The reflection of my face on his sunglasses pushed me further.
He was the familiar starnger I wanted to forget
Calm and collected, his world exclusive behind those dark lens.
