Beating heart in a chest

There lies a chest in my basement
A dusty place I don’t visit
Grass too long has grown over the lawn
Echoes have grown so faint
Adventures dead long ago
But a noise wakes me every night
A jagged sound that is haunting than pleasing
The beat in the chest demands to be dusted and let sing
My fears drown it out when I still
A hope ignites promises kept hidden
Every day I step closer to the basements direction
Brush by the wind carrying smiles and laughter
The beating heart in a chest has not given up like my mind
